Here in Round Top, Texas, events are a frequent occurrence. We love getting together with members of our community and visitors to our town and celebrating life in our paradise off 237. And as laid-back as life tends to be here, we enjoy relaxing and unwinding even more. While we may not have big-city spas, connecting with nature and your fellow humans is all too easy in the Texas countryside.
If you’re wondering what the heck a drum circle is, it’s exactly what it sounds like. Originated in the United States during the late 1960s and early 1970s, drum circles involve a group of people sitting in a circle and co-creating improvised music using drums.
Drum circles have also been shown to have positive health benefits, helping to ease stress, fatigue and chronic pain. Drumming provides an outlet for negative feelings and allows you to express yourself in a positive, worry-free environment.
But don’t take our word for it. Wild Women Wise Women’s drum circle will be led by Sherry Gingras, a certified Crum Circle Facilitator. She has studied West African music in Guinea and has been performing, teaching and leading drumming circles since 1998. Her shop in Austin, aptly named Drumz, specializes in authentic hand-carved drums from Africa as well as world percussion instruments.
If you’re looking for a different way to unwind in Round Top, come find your rhythm with kindred spirits on March 8 from 2 – 4 p.m. And don’t worry if you don’t have your own instrument – drums will be provided.
