May 8, 2021 marked the Round Top birthday to end all Round Top birthdays — our town’s 150th Anniversary Celebration! That’s right, y’all. The town that’s big time small is now a century and-a-half old! (And if you ask us, we look pretty great for our age.)
Although originally planned for 2020 — but pushed back due to COVID-19 — this celebration was worth the wait. We kicked things off with a literal blast from our historical cannon in Town Square, followed by family-friendly fun that spanned the entire day!
Musical acts treated folks to toe-tappin’ tunes ranging from brass band favorites, to covers of country legends, German tunes and more. Meanwhile, our 500 cupcake party gave folks of all ages the chance to indulge their sweet tooth. (After all, as we like to say, life in Round Top is pretty sweet!) And the Round Top Birthday bash’s youngest attendees? We had events planned just for them. A magic show in Town Square amazed and delighted, while a fun fire truck hose-down offered cool relief on a hot Texas day.
Folks looking to soak up a bit of culture had their own pastimes, too! Music lovers had the opportunity to tour our world-famous Round Top Festival Institute — and enjoy incredible performances by James Dick, Julie Bouchard and Mike Stroup! Other folks took part in historic home tours, and learned all about Round Top’s intriguing origins through old-time photos provided by our historical society.
Did we mention the Taste of Round Top? Because that’s definitely worth bringing up. (You didn’t think we’d let folks go hungry, did ya?) This lunchtime event brought together some the biggest and best eateries around, dishing up flavorful foods and wonderful wines that really hit the spot.
No matter how you look at it, our Round Top birthday bash was somethin’ special. We are grateful for all the folks who made it out there to celebrate us, and to everyone who made this fun-filled day possible. We’re lookin’ forward to continuing to celebrate the town that’s big time small for many, many years to come.
